Peter Middlebrook

Dr. Peter J. Middlebrook (born in Lincoln, U.K., 15 November 1965) is an English political economist/Political Scientist specialising in emerging markets and the development of Transition economies. He is best known for his work as an economic advisor to governments in Africa, Central and South Asia, as well as OECD countries. He specialises in the political economy of public and private investment in Central Asia, South Asia and the Horn of Africa with a particular focus on investment finance, Public-Private Partnership, the privatisation and transformation of national economies and productive infrastructure and other public goods. He originated the concept and framework for right-financing as a practical tool to guide both private and public investment (see External Links).

Biography

Middlebrook is the Managing Director of Geopolicity, Inc., an international management consultancy and think tank specialising in political and economic intelligence and diagnostic and analytical advisory services to Investment Banks, Government, and International Financial Institutions. He worked for the World Bank in Afghanistan and India as an economist and as a Senior Advisor to the Government of Afghanistan on the Afghan National Development Strategy and Afghanistan Compact where he worked as an advisor to the Office of the President. He was also the overall coordinator and working group team leader on the successful Securing Afghanistan’s Future exercise, a seven-year US$27.5 billion public investment program presented to an international conference in Berlin attended by 65 finance and foreign ministers.
Dr. Middlebrook has published widely on emerging markets, global recession, geo-strategic interests and on the challenges of Economic Development and reconstruction of States, restructuring of government institutions, political analysis and the political economy of economic growth and poverty reduction.

In 2006 he was invited by the US Council of Foreign Relations to make a presentation on the challenges of post-conflict reconstruction in Afghanistan and has worked extensively on National Security issues advising the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development. He is a member of the Cranfield University National Security Working Group.

He is related to Martin Middlebrook the famous British Military Historian, and was one of the three founders of the Great Ethiopia Run with world record holder and Olympic champion Haile Gebrselassie.

Education

He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree First Class (Hons) from the University of Northumbria in Newcastle on Environmental Management, UK and a PhD from the University of Durham under the Professorship of the renowned Geopolitical specialist Ewan Anderson, Centre for Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies UK on Public Policy in Ethiopia and India in relation to growth economics.

Music

Middlebrook is also British born singer and songwriter Jamie Brooke. During the 1980s he supporting acts such as English Pop Rock musicians Chas & Dave, 10cc and Howard Jones (musician).His debut album Violet Symphony was written in Afghanistan, recorded in India and mastered in New York and is distributed by The Orchard.
